The gearbox assist allows for a no fuss full 360 degree rotation simply by turning the handle on the gearbox and it requires little to no effort at all. Designed and built for those mechanics that see value in efficiency and safe this TradeQuip Engine Stand uses a 90 degree gear drive system known as a Geared Reduction Worm Drive or lessor known Crown and Pinion Drive. The worm wheel shown below has a thru shaft which connects directly to the load bearing adaptors holding the engine, the worm shown below connects directly to the crank handle, the 90 degree alignment of these two gears allows for reduced torque required when rotating the engine via the crank handle. It also has a reverse effect in that the worm gear prevents the load on the worm wheel from forcing rotation, holding the load secure at any point throughout the 360 degree rotation of the engine.
Using an Engine Stand with a Geared Reduction Worm Drive rotational movement that can be safely controlled, not only saves valuable time by eliminating non-productive handling procedures, it meets with Safe Work practices and most safety regulations to minimise the dangers of personal injuries (that result from the manual handling of heavy loads).
